THE ARENA'S NEXT EVENT -

Friday 5th December - Fabulous 40s Night

Acclaimed 20-piece big band Room21 will be commencing the Christmas festivities in 2014 with one of their Fabulous 40s Nights at Arena. The night will be a fundraiser in aid of the Arena's own charitable aims and objectives.

With musicians based in Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire, Room21 Big Band has been entertaining audiences over the last decade. The band is a regular performer at social events and dinner dances, birthday parties, weddings and anniversaries and is often asked to help raise funds for charity.

The band features alto, tenor and baritone saxophones, trumpets, trombones, keyboard, double bass and drums along with male and female vocalists. Their Fabulous 40s Nights are increasingly popular and the band has played at Bawtry Hall, the wartime headquarters for Bomber Command, at Duxford Imperial War Museum at their annual 'Sally B Flying Fortress Day' and on a number of occasions at Sunday afternoon dances at The Spa, Bridlington.

This is their first visit to the Arena and the repertoire is mainly drawn from the 1940s, including In the Mood, American Patrol, Little Brown Jug and Moonlight Serenade but also features favourites from the 50s, such as Rock Around the Clock and Shake Rattle and Roll, many of them included on their recent album, 'Opus One - Live!'

Band Leader Nigel Robson said, "This is music for everyone to enjoy so we're telling Worksop to put on their dancing shoes and 40s dress and come along. It's going to be a fantastic night at a wonderful venue. What better way to shake off the chilly December days than with some hot music! Why not bring your office Christmas party to the Arena and let Room21 entertain you?"

All tickets are only £8 which includes a pie and pea supper, showtime commences at 7.30pm

Jamie Chestney (BDA Development Officer) who competed for England in the Commonwealth Games said 'it is great to see the TV and Media Coverage that Bowls has generated this summer and hopefully our team can bring back some medals, while also inspiring new participants to try Bowls in Nottinghamshire and across the Country.'
So if you have been inspired to try a new sport by The Games, then our FREE COACHING SESSIONS are a great opportunity. The sessions will welcome everyone from complete beginners to people returning to the game and all the equipment will be provided.
Indoor Bowls in Bassetlaw was established in 1982 and we always welcome new members and social members. Our friendly members will also be happy to support to progress and get involved in club activity.
Matt Bloor (Sports Development Officer - Nottinghamshire County Council) highlighted the good work taking place:
'Our Nottinghamshire Clubs have been hugely pro-active since the Hot Spot project started this year and lots of new Bowlers have joined clubs as a result. There has also been lots of interest in coaching courses, with our second BDA Level One Qualification taking place this month, meaning people can have a great experience at clubs and learn the sport in a friendly and relaxed environment.'
